Region 1 – Queanbeyan NSW – Highland St Ninian Sovereign Chapter – Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite for Australia

On Monday evening, 12th February, Highland St Ninian Sovereign Chapter met at the Queanbeyan Masonic Centre. The MWS, Em Bro Ken Rowland OAM 31° CoM, and his wife were travelling QLD’s Sunshine Coast visiting family and friends. The District Commander (DC) welcomed the MWS’ invitation to Chair the meeting.

The DC first invested those officers who had not already been invested following the Enthronement. The Director of Ceremonies, Ill Bro David Slater 32°, is now duly invested and eagerly embraced his responsibilities for the remainder of the meeting. The work of the meeting was a presentation by, Em Bro Dr David Knight 32° CoM, a very well known and eminent member of the Rite who is also to be re-Enthroned as MWS of Canberra Sovereign Chapter in March.

The presentation was focused on the history and distribution of the Book of Tobin and the circumstances surrounding whether or not it was included in the many versions of the Bible. The presentation included extraordinary detail revealing the challenges scholars experienced translating the various parchments from the ancient Hebrew, through Aramaic, Greek and English. Also the various authorities and religions that selected which books, including those contained in the Apocrypha, that would become their own sacred lore.

The members then enjoyed the longest period I’ve ever experienced asking questions of the presenter and engaging in associated discussion. The Chapter was captivated by the topic and I would ask other Chapters across the District to consider requesting this presentation.
